Spoiler alert - don’t buy this game, unless a) you want to waste your money, and b) you think getting shot every four seconds by someone you can’t see is great fun.
I’ve been playing FPS since the first ‘real one’, Counter Strike, over 56k Modems, so while I’m not the best player, I do understand what makes a good game. For me the key elements to a good FPS are:
1) Realism or perceived realism
2) Atmosphere
3) Good balance
4) Fun
5) A sense of space or openness
6) Variety
While Battlefield 1 had all of these things in abundance, BFV does not. It looks nice in the non-multiplayer campaign, but given you will finish that over a large bottle of Coke then that’s not worth the admission alone.
I was so excited about BFV before release as I thought ‘great they will use the same modelling and playability from BF1 and tweak it’, but oh no. A new engine, new design, different feel, it is totally and utterly rubbish.
Finally, the sad part about all of this is BF1 servers are now so thin on the ground I worry that will die.
If anyone from any of the Software Houses are reading this, if you go away and make a good quality WW2 game, along the lines of BF1, you will have a complete winner. Use some interesting life like maps and ‘scenarios’ like Guernsey, Jersey, raid on the Isle of Wight, Isle of Man, etc, as well as historical play. BF1 was a complete winner: BF5 is the biggest disappointment to grace my Xbox.
Conclusion - don’t buy.
