Incredibly well written characters. The family man who wants to be the provider and the macho cock around the wife and a model for the son. He thinks he is so wise, but the greediness gets the better of him. Looks very determined to show the Americans up. The depressed woman who didn't recover from losing her father. She struggles with life and any understanding of it. Distant judgmental mother, distant indifferent brother. An absolute inability to communicate problems with family. Probably quite classic for an American family. The toxic masculine policeman who wants to save the woman, but absolutely incapable to save his own family from heartbreak. The ugly house with the gorgeous view. The writer created flawful people and the director made them move and suffer with the most humane sensitivity. The teenager shot needlessly as many other coloured teenagers in America. The author intention was to make people think and by God was he successful. A very very good film.
