It should be sappy, but it isn’t. It should seem old fashioned, but isn’t. It’s a first-rate drama with unforgettable characters, a deep cultural sensibility (Australia, 1950’s) and so many story lines you can barely keep track of them, but you do, in the end, because they’re so compelling. If you love great stories and characters, watch this series.
