I haven't read a book casually/for fun since middle school, so it was interesting to hear the buzz about this trilogy on Reddit. I finally picked it up after hearing all sorts of things like it had a unique storyline and concept no other story has really touched, that it also had an Eastern type of writing to it (not up everyone's sleeve), so I thought I was in for an interesting ride.
I went in not knowing much. I actually suggest you do not even look up what it's about, because the first book is like a mystery and sets up the premise of what's going on. If I had known what the trilogy was about, then the surprise would've been ruined for me, and I may have dropped it.
I read on and fell engrossed into their world. It captivated me in a way that only few other stories in this world were capable of, mostly because the ideas, concepts, and scope of the book are so plausibly laid out as to feel horrifyingly real. This to me, is what convinced me that this is one of the only science "fictional" books that actually felt non fictional, or possible in our world.
A cliche saying will follow--this book and the following two sequels literally changed the way I view life. I sincerely believe and am humbled to read such a wonderfully rich and complex story that Liu Cixin created.
