*CRINGE* I have to preface by saying that Aladdin was one of my favorite movies growing up. I am a huge fan. I had high expectations for this movie. However, I was open to a new interpretation. My hopes for a modern revival of Aladdin were shattered within the first 30 minutes. The movie was incredibly long and drawn out. Scenes that did not develop characters or explain plot took way longer than they had to. I was not happy about the choices for the actors. Aladdin was played very well by, Mena Massoud. Will Smith played an amazing version of the genie. When it comes to Jasmin or jaffar, I was let down. Jasmine did not have a connection to the audience and the vulnerability that the original jasmine had. Jaffar was a wet noodle. There was no intimidation on his behalf. I walked out of the movie theatre bored that this movie took so long to end and dumbfounded at how bad it truly was. I was not happy watching a scene in the movie if will smith wasn’t in it. It’s truly a shame that will Smith had to be responsible for carrying the entire movie. It’s not worth seeing otherwise.
