I read about the West during this period from writers like Dee Brown, and found it both fascinating and extraordinarily horrific. The Mountain Meadows Massacre by the Mormon militia was of course a real event. Consequently, I think that American Primeval gives an incredibly visceral insight into that dark period. It is extremely well filmed, especially the brutal action, which doesn’t let up.

The first episode was good. Tense and intriguing. But it became repetitive and silly. I would rather spend a year on an oil rig than watch Season 2.

I just watched Aliens, so this was rubbish.

Just one extra point - it’s frustrating to see a man set up everything Bill did, then stand in the open with a bolt action rifle, while people are shooting at him. Similarly, when Pascal was surrounded by military supplies, with an empty assault rifle, he kept the empty rifle. Bollocks.

I just saw the absurd gunfight on Facebook reels, and that was enough.

This show is an abuse of Costner and Berenger. It might be good, but it’s impossible to tell, because when one dislikes all the characters within 15 mins, i.e. Costner and Berenger murdering two boys, there’s no reason to watch more.

Julia Roberts and the Obamas produced an apocalypse drama. Most events in the film are inexplicable and unrealistic. The funny thing is, while I watched it, I found it tense, exciting and fascinating. It was only afterwards, when I thought about each scenario, that I realized it was complete bollocks. The socio-economic dynamics of the white and black families are interesting. Roberts is intensely dislikeable, and her once beautiful mouth looks like a piece of liver on the turn. But nothing explains why the cultured black financier on the board of the opera allowed his daughter to cover herself in ink like a crack ho.

If you read the book, you’ll realise what this film isn’t.

Taylor Sheridan has made an astonishingly raw, beautiful and historic series. Knowing that it is the beginnings of the Dutton family on their plains crossing adds to it, but I think it is much better than Yellowstone. It is perhaps the most moving television series I have seen. The reviews that question the realism of whitened teeth and lack of railroad use have a point, but so was Juliet played by a boy originally; so let that go and remember that there are still people driving or walking towards new homes around Europe.
