I was very interested in this movie from the cast, the title, and really just the main plot. Don’t look up is a pretty ambitious movie with it’s diverse cast and interesting plot. Two scientists find an apocalyptic comet headed for Earth but nobody is taking them seriously. I enjoyed this movie but there’s really a lot wrong with it. It is probably THE definition of wasted potential. The main problem I really have with it is it doesn’t know what it wants to be. A comedy? A sci-fi drama? A parody of “this is the end” or even “Game over, dude!”? Some scenes you have DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence having a mental breakdown from how big this issue is and other scenes you have Jonah Hill and Ariana Grande dissing and cussing them out. Which is annoying because when you have actors taking their role seriously like Jennifer in this movie, she’s actually funny. She has pretty funny moments in this movie and it feels very wasteful. What’s also really weird is that the director Adam McKay really likes to cut sentences off at the end of a scene. you just have a sentence getting cut off. It’s weird to explain but it makes some scenes look like mistakes. Another big issue I had is the off topic plots. We don’t care about this DJ Cello guy and whoever Ariana Grande is in this movie, I just didn’t care. We don’t care about some old guy marketing his weird app only giving him 5 seconds of actual worth. Scenes like these really put the movie off track and you sit there not actually caring because they’re just not important. It’s also unrealistic how very few people are actually believing the scientists. it was very frustrating to watch. they didn’t have a reason to not be concerned about this meteor headed for Earth. Overall 6/10 they could’ve done so much more than a weird, annoying parody of “This is the End”.
