I know my opinion will be wildly unpopular, specially being a Brazilian. The theme is important, vitally pungent and I simply canโt believe we donโt have more movies showing the horrors of the military period - a dictatorship- here in this country. All the violence and psychological control we suffered during those years and the consequences we have to deal with until these days. And the idiots around claiming for the military in power again, make this movie mandatory to all Latin American audiences. Anyway, the movie is great, donโt get me wrong. The direction is precise, careful, and the actors are nothing but perfect. The reconstitution of that era ( most seventies is dead on) and several other details are equally impeccable. Soundtrack has been captivating the European and North American audiences and will continue to do it. Of course, the local audience is going to love it too, specially the lyrics that help to tell the story. Lots of Easter-eggs too, all related to a sad and touching storytelling. The hype and the buzz have ruined this experience to me. Maybe I was expecting a masterpiece ( probably it is) and my expectations went sky high. If you control the anticipation and stay away from this buzz, you will enjoy the movie much more. Good movie, too slow sometimes and too subtle regarding the terrible period we lived in. A movie like this could show even more the reasons why this kind of situation should never be repeated in ANY nation. Fernanda and Selton are absolutely shining, and both really deserve our respect and admiration. A great movie, totally worth watching on the big screen - not perfect, but great indeed. As Mustaine says: military intelligence, two words combined that canโt make sense.
