Making a bio-pic without dramatising the narration to an extent that would kill its soul, is an impossible task for Indian film makers. We are poor bio-pic makers for decades and this movie is in same league. Telling a story through Cinema without making it gigantic and getting carried away in the process, is an art, completely eluding here. It might make you feel in awe of Shakuntla devi, but in real, its poorly made movie to depict, who she real was in life. A women much ahead of her time, who carried herself poised, confident and futuristic.
If you see free to browse videos of Shakuntla Devi, and what is portrayed in movie are two characters miles apart. Vidya Balan couldn't resist overacting and made a joke of skuntala devi's persona. The mature, witty and versatile character of Shakuntla devi, and the way she carried herself, was portrayed as a humourous and over-acted character by Vidya. The mother-daughter relationahip is too much dramatised & lacked to portray strong persona Shankutla Devi had kept all her life without being emotionally vulnerable. Poor reading, script and direction.
Really felt bad that the movie could not do justice to a great person well ahead of her time. Poorly made and acted movie.
