Lots of people are saying that the movie is bad because t didn't hold up to the broadway show. Do your research, people. The broadway version didn't come out for another 20 years after this was released. Also, people are saying Christian Bale is not a good singer, but he didn't even know Newsies was a musical when he was first in production. He had to learn to sing in less than a year. In fact, while the broadway version was good, Newsies is about child labor and kid protestors. Having adults play these kids doesn't hit the same.
