Two episodes in and I'm already done with it. They literally went "We can't make Peter Parker black so lets make everyone else a POC" I don't mind diversity and inclusion, but this is so down my throat and so hard to ignore. I love Nico as a new character, but Lincoln as the main jock is meh. The fact he's a jock and really smart? but also not peters bully? Flash Thompson being peters bully was a core aspect of what what made peter interesting, it taught him humility and self control, he knew he could beat flash easily but doesn't.
The costume looks terrible, I get it's a starter costume, but c'mon! he could do better. I found it interesting that they added Cho and a person from Wakanda, but the diversity is too much, it feels like peter is the only Caucasian person in the entire show.
What makes it worse is because of the level of forced diversity, it puts me in a position where I feel uncomfortable giving any form of critism I because it could be met with me coming off racist, which isn't the fact, I don't mind inclusivity, but when you race swap core characters instead of adding new characters is where I have problems. Take the tom Holland Spiderman, they didn't make Mary Jane black, they just added a new version of her called Michelle Jones, which is how it should be done.
The animation style seems pretty meh, nothing too out of the ordinary, but I got bored of it pretty quickly.
Writing is do-do, [Spoilers] But spiderman being caught on camera by norman while he changed into his spiderman costume was pretty bad, but I'll see where they go with this.
I pray they didn't have Dr Strange as a cameo while at the same time having him everywhere, if he's going to be everywhere have him have a small role in the show, or dont have him anywhere and keep him as a cameo.
Peter getting bitten was interesting, new concept on how instead of rehashing old (bitten in a lab) trope.
All-in-all, this show is a 1/10 for me. I'm tired of forced diversity, and the fact they already confirmed it for 2 more seasons without getting a grasp on audience opinion shows it's not about making a good piece of media, but to check a DEI agenda checkbox, this is the spiderman version of Velma, accept they learned half the lesson, you can't make peter parker black, but they instead opted to just make everyone a POC. once again, I have NO PROBLEM with POC, but this feels too forced.
