Full theater. Saw on day 2 of release. Wasn’t sure wanted to see it as I’m not a fan of AG. But have to say : gorgeous costumes, sets and score. I did find it very immersive and I didn’t dislike it. I really actually did but all in all it’s hyped up way too much. And they’ll make millions off merch alone.
Loved the WIzard of Oz easter eggs.
Was surprised the leads did as well as they did but- AG acting skills lack in my opinion. Her comedy parts were just ok. And CE although a powerful belter, her acting just felt under done. A bit robotic.
And honestly, she looked like Fiona from Shrek, so i found myself distracted.
I love the lady who plays Madame Morrible but even her performance felt a little underwhelming. Jeff Gs acting was a bit odd /silly to me.
ok now -
Why do we have to use kids for Munchkins? Why do we constantly have to have gay characters? I’m not shallow- I just don’t get the need for woke at every turn. It gets literally pushed in your face.
It does drag sometimes. The dancing through life number was good but long and honestly not needed. The musical number when they’re about to see the Wizard, is just too long and silly.. The appearance of Kristen Chenoweth and Idina Menzel, would’ve been much better as a slight cameo. I thought it was very inappropriate and tacky that not only did they appear, but then sang.A lot. And then Idina Menzel did that famous singing “aaahh ahh ahhh “ line, and it was just really tacky. I did not know they were even in it.
That being said, I definitely think it’s not a little kids. the monkey part is terrifying. In the beginning of the movie the Wizard is apparently having an affair with the mother and that’s where Elphaba comes from? which I didn’t even know that, so not sure if that’s appropriate either.
Part two next year is obviously a $$ grab.
It was beautiful, and I was shocked that I liked it, there were just parts of it that could’ve been left out , and it again is really long. Bring snacks and an empty bladder.
