People don’t rate this highly are those who fail to grasp the magic of fine movie making. If you are into instant gratification or car chase movies, this is not for you. The cinematography here is quite extraordinary - only David Lean held shots longer and kept you that riveted. It has real depth and best of all it captures an entire era. Art house at its very finest.

I give this the full five because of its place in time and context. For such a masterpiece to arise from communist Poland is astonishing and it is rightly called the emergence of Euro free jazz. It moves freely inside and out - often over modal grooves. Komeda, with Stanko’s contribution,set a benchmark. .
