Spoilers because I’ve read the book and watched the movie. The book is great. It explores every single character and goes into so much more depth. Many scenes from the movie are l changed from what they are in the book. I wish they had stuck to the book more. The book follows nica and Rigel from 5 to 34. They go through high school, college and being married together. And they’re together from 18-present day married with their own daughter. Who teaches Rigel how to be gentle and love purely as does nica. There are also backstories being told about Adeline, Peter, miki and Billie. Even a lot more with Asia. The accident does involve a bridge but it’s a fight not a car chasing them and Rigel actually launches himself off the bridge to save nica who fell through the netting and shields her with his body from the fall protecting her and risking himself for her. Tells her he loves her right before they hit. Everything he does is in protection of her. And he’s been protecting her since the age of 5. Just without her knowing. He can be rough and wild and dark but I think that has more to do with the way they grew up in the orphanage as never being taught how to love or give love or receive love or even feel worthy of being loved. Like he says, there is no fairytale that ends with the wolf holding the girls hand. She literally loves him so much she brings him out of a stage 3 coma after a month of being comatose. Never leaving his side and saving his life in return for him saving hers. The book is very detailed and the movie was rushed. Nica is said to have long hair and her hair is short in the movie but Rigels actor matches the character very well minus the height. He is described as towering over nica and they seem maybe 2-3” apart in height in the movie. She’s small and fragile and he’s tall and sculpted. But his hair and eyes match. She’s said to have grey eyes and freckles and I don’t see that in the main character. I wish they had shown them graduating hs, in college and dating and him telling Anna the adoptive parent he’s leaving because he’s in love with her and she deserves a family. Also all the in between stuff missed. The ending is them married at 34 with a 5 year old daughter named rose after the rose he gives her and because her hair is jet black like his and she has her now grey eyes. It’s Xmas and he’s a space engineer who sends satellites into space and she’s a vet and he’s gentle and kind and protective of his daughter. Still has attacks from the neuromas but is a good husband and father and the daughter plays piano with him and adores him. They should have shown all of that. It should have been a series to show everything. Even Adeline’s wedding. The book doesn’t tell of them getting engaged or married as it skips ahead quite a bit from them at 21 to 34 but he does put the purple bandaid around her finger and tells her it’s all he has to offer her and if she will marry him someday everyone will see she’s his and has been his since the beginning. In the book she wears colored bandaids. There are also many more love scenes in the book and playfulness with them. Book is 10/10. Movie is 6/10.
