Why did they even bother to call it “Mary”? It’s not even remotely close to a Biblical depiction. But with her having confrontations with Lucifer, living in a convent, rebelling against the temple to feed the poor, being a strong liberated woman, it’s clear that Netflix like Disney and any other big money franchise intends to recast Jesus as a more diversified character. She plays out many of Jesus’ stories in this film that should be considered a prequel to Jesus’ life. For anyone familiar with the story in the Bible, trying to reconcile this is confusing. For anyone who isn’t familiar with the Bible, expecting to learn something about the historical Mary, they will unwittingly be mislead and furthermore, not bother to learn that this was not intended to be historically accurate. I think that’s the point. It’s just to confuse non Christians about Mary and Christianity. Shocking…
