It was a nostalgic trip to places and times I only knew of from my child hood love of television and film. The old black and whites that took me away from the inner-city jungle of North Philadelphia in the 1980’s. Though fiction, these stories preserve factual truths, like time capsules filled with American culture; that when opened almost seem alien in the absurdity we call present day.
The commentary on the lives and academic careers of the authors provide insight into the influences and trajectories that brought each writer their unique and creative flair.
As an aspiring novelist, Best of LSU Fiction has given me a sense of belonging in the rich heritage of American literature.
