Did the original dirty, they took away the fundamental plot lines that made the original movie such a master piece.
In this movie the adaptation of Eric draven feels almost empty, he doesn’t feel genuine or good, they striped away all the factors that made the original Eric such a likeable and morally grey character, took away that vigilante characteristic that made him seem genuine and full of love. While this Eric just feels like a junkie with no true love, the only true visuals of love we see between Shelly and Eric in this film is them having sex and taking drugs together.
The gang involved in this adaptation feels hollow and no where as near as threatening, they feel mild and quite plain and the chase to pursue his vengeance feels so dull due to this. The original actually felt like it was a struggle, something that had to be done and felt like a true journey where we grew with Eric as a individual, Eric didn’t show a form of change in this film and felt disconnected from me as an audience member.
The film itself has good visuals and good world building but it doesn’t feel like “The Crow” that many of us fell in love with. The erasure of characters such as the policeman, the mother and the little girl from the original film made the movie lose dynamics that could’ve been drawn out to make Eric seem so much more genuine in his cause, but having erased these relationships it created a dull and lacklustre story.
