The movie has a good start, a story that has a good direction, but loses touch. Not only does it feel generic, but it also fails to be unique or give off a special experience, i know this is in honour of Disney's anniversary but it doesn't justify it, the movie has its best parts of course. The songs were absolutely maginificent! The characters are also unique and have lovely personality traits, but the issue is there is so much lack of pacing, everything happens so fast and there isn't enough time for the characters to be fleshed out. I also noticed the concept arts have more light than the movie had to offer which is where the problem lies, in order to add more flavour, or have the old magic touch disney always had, i think many people would enjoy if there were those factors. For instance, instead of a cliche "main character proves all odds and does what they've always been meant to do and has everyone join forces to help them save the day in a snap" there should be something unexpected or out of the ordinary, i know it is hard to capture that same feeling when it's been done many times, but the concept arts itself showed just how far the movie could've gone. Perhaps Asha having a love interest would make the story more unique too as she not only has hope from them but also feels inspired, or Asha's personality goes beyond the usual "awkward and misunderstood quirky" character. Even the villains being a duo couple would have been a new start or in between, the options are endless and i can see that many have been explored but not given a try. The audience may be unique up to date but truth is people may want originality, but they also want something that makes them leave theatres in awe of what they saw, movies like Tangled, Frozen and more made a huge turning point because of the unique storyline and perspective they had, even those had unique concepts stripped off but were still fleshed out with excellent story telling. I truly hope to see more improvements in future movies as i see potential but a wrong direction, even the songs have a feel good vibe to them but there's always a touch missing, sometimes the first idea isn't so bad and i hope to see that in future projects, this goes alongside pixar movies itself too. Overall, i think the movie is fun and wonderful on its own, but it truly could have it's own magic touch and that is my wish for it.
