I've spent a good amount of time reading through bad reviews for this movie and I think a lot of them are missing the point.
I've only seen one other WA film, that being fantastic Mr fox, I've always loved that movie because of the awkward quirkyness of it all. I'll probably be using Fantastic Mr fox as a frequent comparison.
I went into this movie with zero expectations and no clue what it was about. I'll start with the positives:
Visually I LOVED it, the colers, the composition, how every frame felt like a postcard of some sorts. I feel like all the actors where great, me and my Dad found ourselves laughing a lot throughout this movie. I really liked the three sisters and the alien, thought they where hilarious
! I also adored the use of practical effects refreshing!
I've seen a lot of reviews talking about the scenes that felt out of place or random and how they hated it, that (at least to me) is part of the humor. Same goes for the dialogue, alot of fast or mutterd speech. Going back to fantastic Mr fox, you see a lot of that sort of thing in that particular movie that you see here. It's part of the quirkiness and humor. Another big complaint I saw pop up a lot was the plot not being strong enough. I could list of sooo many big hit movies with zero plot.
I'm not very picky when it comes to movies, but I can certainly tell when a movie is bad, this was not one of those. Not everyone will understand the humor and the creative and unconventional route this movie took. But I don't believe this movie deserves such a bad rap.
