3.5 stars but another half star for the effort.
Mani Ratnam is a master at handling romantic scenes, but fails to bring war scenes to life.
PS2 has brilliant performances by its long list of mega stars - Kundavai teasing Vandiyathevan (Trisha - Kaarthi), Aadhitya Karikalan - Nandhini emotional turmoils (Vikram - Aishwarya Rai)
Aalwarkadiyan - Vandiyathevan humourous banters (Jayaram - Kaarthi) to name a few
But war scenes shows the chaos of war literally as you are lost figuring out who kills who and it only slows down for poster shot of Arulmozhi Varman emerging victorious (Jayam Ravi)
Story telling, which was on introduction mode throughout PS1 and first half of PS2, suddenly goes into full acceleration towards finishing in 2nd half leaving audience confused and lost.
P.S: Review without any prelude of reading the novel by Kalki.
