In my opinion, this film is by far the worst in the franchise. The villain is barely touched upon in his backstory apart from a couple of lines. In comparison, Dragon had an entire scene explaining his backstory. To cap all this off is… the light fury. A knock off, poorly designed Nightfury. They made it smooth. SMOOTH. Dragons aren’t meant to be smooth. The design is sexist and all it comes to serve is as a glittery beluga whale. None of the other female dragons, e.g. Stormfly and Meatlug have been feminised in this way and look the same as the male counterparts in their respective species. The noises it makes are just yucky and make me nauseous when I hear it. All it did to the plot was serve as a love interest for Toothless that we didn’t need. It has no backstory, like, how come no one else knows about these dragons? Furthermore, All the dragons have been in a way “cutified”. These are supposed to be dangerous animals. If you don’t get what I mean, look at an image of toothless from Httyd 1 side by side with Httyd 3. The characters in this have been ruined, from Toothless becoming a sloppy excuse for an alpha, the Snotlout and Valka relationship that is just disgusting, and with every Berkian just being downright rude to Hiccup for most of the time. I mean, this is their chief, who has saved them numerous times, from defeating the red death, defeating Drago and his bewilderbeast, and defeating Viggo and his dragon hunters as well as Krogan. And yet in this film for some reason everyone is just constantly putting him down.

What a movie to follow the art piece of Httyd 1. The villain in this movie is out of this world, especially once the creators expanded on his backstory at the end of the race to the edge series. The dragons that are introduced in this film do not lack in standards to the ones in the first film, proving this to be a worthy successor.

This is by far the best animated franchise to come out of any film making company with this movie being the absolute peak of it all. The animation is perfect and the character design is flawless. It blends a playful humorous story with real life concepts. I love this film and the franchise will forever hold a place in my heart.
