I can’t really explain why, but the tears just kept sliding down my face as I watched this film. The beginning is deliberately slow which I found a bit annoying at first and then realised it’s our crazy paced life today that is the problem, then my heart rate slowed right down and I was back in the Ireland I grew up in in the early 80’s.
It evoked so many memories that the tears kept coming. I absolutely loved everything about it. The actors were so incredible I found it hard to believe they were not the real deal.
The constant dropping in of neighbours for the tea was my youth and the strong community that is no longer in rural Ireland was so well reflected.
The key life events like the wedding with the free spirited dancing is still in our culture and the laying out of the neighbour who dies was so beautifully done.
The cycle of life is so well portrayed with listening out for the cuckoo.
I have to see it again. Be prepared to awaken emotions that you don’t know are there.
