With a heavy heart, I bid farewell to my Downton family. Six seasons and three feature films later, the franchise has finally come to an end. I had the privilege of watching the grand finale on its release day here in London โ absolutely spectacular, and a truly well-deserved ending.
My absolute favourite characters have always been Lady Violet Crawley and Lady Mary Crawley โ magnificently portrayed by Dame Maggie Smith and Michelle Dockery, the two true matriarchs of Downton Abbey. I was overjoyed to witness the torch being passed on to Mary ๐ฅน. None of this would have been possible without the genius of Julian Fellowes, who breathed life into this timeless masterpiece. Long live Downton Abbey!
This period drama has shaped and refined my taste in the kind of media I consume over the years. At its heart, it captures the transition from old traditions to new ways, reminding us that the glory of life continues through its ebbs and flows. Set in an era when women were only beginning to receive their long-overdue recognition โ though never in the full sense they deserved โ it also echoes a struggle that remains all too relevant today.
I love this franchise so deeply that I even visited the real Downton Abbey โ Highclere Castle โ an absolutely unforgettable experience. This is a show that can never be recreated. Every single character left an indelible mark, brought to life so brilliantly by a cast of extraordinary talent. Itโs a series I will one day cherish again with my children. Au revoir, Downton Abbey โ the greatest show that ever graced our screens ๐ฅนโค๏ธ.
