I so enjoyed this book. Sweet and in a time before internet, computers, and cellphones. 1984. I think the only thing I would change is when she can just ride a horse and wrangle cattle without saying she had experience riding. In other stories, more training on ranch experience would be mentioned.
I wish for a bit more at the end. Like "Layne asked him for a proposal do-over. He asks the father for permission to wed his daughter, And he comes out with ring and kneels... And they make plans to live at his home on the ranch, where she brings curtains and spring flowers to make it a home. The other grandparents get resentful that she moves so far away, they end up buying a retail space in valentine so they can still be close"
