I have never written a review publicly but I 'My Mister' deserves a review. This series is very slow-moving. I thought at the beginning of episode 5: "Why am I watching this?". Korean cultural and cinematic idiosyncrasies are strange to us but the more I watched, the more I became attuned to these cultural nuances. I began to see the wonderful humanity at the core of the drama. This work has true heart and it drew me in. Strangely, I fell head over heels in love.
The long, slow visualisations of the faces of the protagonists were, I thought (at episode 5) overdone. But somehow, that's what the series is about. I was pre-conditioned to expect Western drama and I missed the point in the first five episodes. But I could not stop watching. The beauty of this show lies in its power to make you feel. I cried several times; I laughed a few times. And so I got drawn in. Somewhere in episode 7, I knew I was going to get to the end of episode 16. It is a long, slow and beautiful creation that broke my heart in the watching of it. The insight into Korean corporate culture and social experience is fascinating and I found myself pausing at times to google 'Sonju' and 'Kimchi' and the culture of 'bowing' ; also the status of individuals based on what work they do. Be careful. If you have a heart, you will be drawn into this Korean drama and it will not let you go without changing you. You may be deeply affected. Unless you have a heart of stone.Beware of a beautiful thing.
