Sheds the light on Hitlers climb to power.
The movie indicates Hitler had some issues his whole life, even as a child, which is brushed over very quickly, as well as Hitler serving Germany in WW1. But its enough to give you the basic cast of how he was molded.
It puts into perspective of Germanys problems, treaties that were out of line as far as Im concerned that the German "leaders" signed after WW1, greatly impeding Germanys growth.
It goes on then to his speaches, with audiences getting larger over the years. Hitler seemed to use Germanys woes, and pointed in the direction of Jews, Poles, communists, and the leaders of Germany for its problems.
It includes several facts, along with a few things that are perhaps not true, but could be true, they just dont know.
Hitler "stirs the pot" to basically anyone who would listen to him, most masterfully.
The cast is superb. I was very surprised that Robert Carlyle played the part of Hitler, because I just didnt think he could pull it off. Although he does not look much like Hitler, he did a super job portraying a strong armed dictator. Very well done. He captures Hitlers pompus, arrogant, assertive behavior.
If anything, I would say his portrayal of Hitler was a tad bit aggressive compared to other Hitler movies. I just dont think Hitler was that aggressive in real life.
It also gets into Hitlers half niece, and his possessive nature he had over her, which many historians have theories about the relationship.
Its a very good movie about Hitler, ending the film pre WW2, only focusing on how he came into power. Worth watching.
Cons: Spends a little to much time going over his relationship with his niece, with very bizzare behavior.
Also, it was a great try, but Carlyle just put a bit too much spin on Hitlers personality, and they added things about Hitler that I very much doubt is true. Beating a dog in WW1 probably never happened because Hitler loved dogs, etc.
My opinion is they did the classic, "lets make Hitler even more evil, and insane"
