HOOO-Boy! Where to startโฆ we were looking forward to this film because of the cast and the location. But the dry, dark comedy poking fun at the more absurd elements of the Left and Right went full Fox News-News Max-Alex Jones wacko. Apparently Ari Aster thinks there were gun fights between BLM protestors and the police (nope), and โANTIFAโ is an actual organized organization (um, no) who flies around on private jets with assault weapons looking for small town sheriffs to assassinate (LMFAO no). Itโs as politically tone-deaf as it gets, and Iโm sure the director/writers are smugly congratulating themselves on being oh-so clever and offending โboth sidesโ. But all they accomplished was throwing random political headlines into a blender and regurgitating them, badly. You cannot do โpolitical commentaryโ on issues one does not understand or respect. This film has the depth of a sub-par stand up comedian who drinks too much mushroom coffee and thinks offending people somehow makes them seem smart.
