Wow. What Have We Here indeed.
I have to admit I went into this novel strictly as a Star Wars fan. I really knew nothing about the man that portrayed one of my favorite characters, Lando Calrissian.
What a life.
If you have the opportunity to listen to the audiobook, which is what I did, I highly recommend. Hearing Billy Dee tell his own story was a fascinating and at times emotional journey.
I had no idea the talent he had beyond his illustrious acting career. I loved every minute of this book. Maybe it was having BDW speaking to me in that seductive, charming voice of his for nearly 12 hours.
At times, particularly at the beginning of the book before I got into the rhythm, his rhythm, I found the cadence of his voice a little off, like he was reading directly from the page, rather than just telling me his story, but at 87 years old, the man is allowed to reading directly from the page if that’s what he needs to do.
However, when he would begin to do a monologue, say a line from a movie, or recant how he seduce a woman, any awkward cadence would disappear and the true Billy Dee, sexy, seductive, charming and roguish would come across clear as day. He still got it.
It’s a shame I can’t give this book higher than 5 stars.
Chandelier baby.
