This is a pathetic film.
When I saw the title, I wondered why they used the 1956 USA title, with Raymond Burr.
For any true 'fan' of Godzilla, you must begin with the 1954 original Gojira....a tale about the fears of nuclear bomb testing, filled less than a decade after the US bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It is a grim tale of death and destruction, with the 'hero' Dr. Sarazawa, realizing that he must not only save the world from Gojira, but must destroy all of his notes.. .and intimately himself, so that no one can again create his horrible weapon the oxygen destroyer. Based in part on an actual event, where a small fishing boat, the Lucky Dragon, got too close to a US bomb test, resulting in radioactive fallout exposure to the crew...sadly, not a 'Lucky' Dragon at all.
The 1956 US version with Raymond Burr, is basically for the sci fi kids crowd of the time, eliminating much of the 'dread' impact.
