Coming into it I had never played a Monster Hunter game and I didn't feel like I had missed any elements. It's a well out together JRPG with a deceptively complex and fun battle system that tests your memory, luck, and intuition. It sort of feels like Pokemon and DragonQuest got thrown inn a blender and reskinned in Monster Hunter garb. There's a great story, plenty to do, a ton of things to collect and even more items to create. It's a blast.
