Magnificent movie. It plays so well on many levels – a snapshot of New York City politics as the 19th century became the 20th (Irish versus Italians, the immigrant Experience, some parallels to “Hamilton” and “West Side story”), the need for drive and energy to keep going against obstacles (I must say I mentally compared Mother Cabrini with Elon Musk as mother Cabrini practised the approach of “never give up never surrender” (shout out to Alan Rickman in galaxy Quest)!). The movie dramatically raises issues of immigrants and the need to reach out and support immigrants, and great to see that mother Cabrini was not only the first American Saint of the Catholic Church, but is also the patron of immigrants). All of this flows extremely well from a dramatic perspective – my compliments to the screenwriter and team. Superb acting. The length was just right, about two hours 15 minutes – an hour shorter than Oppenheimer. A really good dramatic experience with plenty of the issues to think about and a welcome change from dumbed down comic book productions and spy thrillers. I’m recommending it to all my friends.
