This book is fundamental to American understanding what ails US democracy, the organized attack against it and what we need to fix it. Beyond that it is the only book that argues that we need an organized process of industrial, economic and clean energy based revival that will remake the US into a more prosperous and equal nation. While there was much that needed fixing in some undemocratic features in the US constitution and in the manner in which elected officials had become unresponsive to common people, there is no need to throw the baby out with the bathwater. The US constitution and democracy need urgent reform and need to be strengthened so that it can not only withstand the assault on it by people such as Trump, but also the undemocratic actions of the Republican party. The way to greater power to the people in not to have authoritarianism but to make democracy more responsive and participatory, which still retaining the dynamic of being able to solve urgent problems like that of health and climate. Besides that, this book has excellent ideas on systematic ways to improve the jobs and economy situation, solving climate change by transitioning to clean energy, strengthening women's rights, reducing gun violence, promoting respect for diversity while also better looking after african Americans and tribal nations, reforming immigration, reforming foreign policy (so we don't have to spend so much on defense), investing in better health, investing in education, and reforming Wall Street and the US financial system (so that the 2008 financial crisis does no occur again). The four point Jobs and Economy Plan in particular is an outstanding part of this book that has suggestions rarely found elsewhere: pro-employment and pro-environment tax reform, a deliberate re-industrialization strategy, local production for local use as the only way to uplift depressed communities (along with restoration of the rural farm economy), and transforming all aspects of the economic and environmental system to respond to the challenges of climate change and ecosystem collapses. This book emphasizes that the dark forces that are creating the current problems are living big mess that will need to be cleaned up. But the book outlines that we need a reform of the US constitution and political process so as to build a nation that is good for all Americans, solves it s own problems while helping the world solve global problems, and acts as a leader for national nd global peace and prosperity. This book urges that this process should begin and provides an approach to begin making this vision a reality.
