While many British and American men were incarcerated together with other nationalities, and they were treated with such inhuman brutality as only the Japanese soldiers and their superiors were capable of, it is to me yet another example of the depths to which human behaviour can stoop. One can sadly trace this kind of brutality and utterly callous treatment of one human upon another as history has shown us as far back as Genghis Khan, Kubla Khan, Alexander the Great, and all the way through history with atrocities like the Spanish Inquisition, the Russian Tsars, and let's not forget the ever brutal Adolf Hitler under whose command over six million Jewish people were not only murdered brutally, but were treated with less dignity than an animal, and all the way to the Idi Amins, Papa Doc of Haiti, Slobodan Miloscevich, to Yassser Arafat, the Ayatolla, Saddam Hussein, and let's not forget Osama Bin Laden who instigated the most horrendous attack on the U.S. ever recorded. The world crime rate is soaring through the roof, the uneven distribution of wealth, the shortage of food, water, medicine and schools experienced by many people living in what we graciously call 'third world countries'. Humanity is utterly incapable of living harmoniously with each other, lacks the ability to accept others as they are, and we live every day contributing, one way or the other, to the steady decline and decay of all moral or ethical standards. We continue to deplete the planets resources at an unsustainable rate while we go about our lives focused almost entirely on our own pleasures, comforts and requirements, giving little or no thought for to-morrow. This inevitably will lead to the obvious and only conclusion.....if we don't make drastic and vital changes we are doomed to extinction and flying off to Mars or wherever, will only postpone the unavoidable conclusion, and in the process expend even more trillions of dollars, yen, pounds, euros, francs, etc., etc., whatever currency you choose doesn't really matter, only the fact that this money would be better spent feeding starving people, curing diseases that governments don't have money to delegate to research cures, but somehow manage to find money to take a plethora of 'politically necessary' trips to various countries. The British manage to finance the utterly outmoded and unnecessary royal family while the public have to fight to survive the rising cost of living. There are so many inequalities in this world they will never be rectified and humanity will continue to bury it's collective head in the sand hoping that one glorious day things will be just fine and dandy! Ha! Fat chance, people, wake up and smell the manure, the Trumps of this world will be the last ones standing until even their wealth and possessions can't save them. I wish I could be around to see it. The only way to prevent this scenario is if everyone does a 180 degree turn in their outlook on life and what it means to them. May God have mercy on our souls!
