Breathtaking.
Joaquin Phoenix's Joker is simply amazing.
The tone of the movie is harsh and it is sometimes even difficult to watch and keep your eyes open. We go from caring and vouching for the Joker, seeing him being completely beaten by a society that doesn't care about him and an entourage that bullies and abuses him. But then, he dives deep into his narcissistic, vengeful and violent urges and we lose him. We lose him way too far for him to be récupérable. We feel pain, sadness, anger and disgust as we watch right before our eyes a somewhat pityful man become a monster.
This is not an ode to the far-right. I, in fact, don't even understand how some critics came to that conclusion. Feels like some people went in there with already outraged lenses on and made up their mind beforehand.
