Stevie Wonder is one of the greatest musicians to ever play an instrument. Everyone knows he recorded with Motown but he felt handcuffed by the deal the label gave him as very young talent and in 1971 he negotiated a new deal giving him more control of his music. This new freedom ushered in his creative period. Talking Book is the second album of this most significant period (Music Of My Mind is the first and The Secret Life Of Plants is generally acknowledged as the last) in the career of this very significant artist. Each album released during this period is brilliant and stands on it's own merit, but it is hard to listen to Talking Book without giving Music Of My Mind a play, and this is where the rabbit hole begins. Indulge yourself.
