Weeeel.. as someone living in that area during this time, and milk customer!! this is interesting jndeed.it’s a very busy book whose many biographical strands are grafted on the stem of of milk roundery, and there are aspects that do undoubtedly strike a chord. The busy multi story format does lead to some confusion, and the narrative style - through each characters consciousness - similarly but factually legitimate common experiences of the place snd time, how new town kids were crippled by old city legacies, petty violent territorial rivalries, kids damaged by inadequate parenting within a very low cultural expectation, that is worth talking about though No Mean City it ain’t, happily. More Shuggie Bain? Woo hoo Calderwood Square! The Salmon Leap! The Bus Station even! Who knew! But this is a fair old read and an achievement . Many thanks
