Although sometimes tinged with the goofiness of an anime this show manages to tell a very gripping story that made me marathon the last 2 seasons while on vacation just to keep learning more about the world. The creator does a great job of keeping you engaged and questioning everything once you get past the beginning of season 1, which is mostly setting the stage and building up the characters. The only downside is that the gore, especially in season 2, got pretty excessive at times. I almost dropped it at the start of that season as I couldn't understand where the show was going and thought the recent developments were strange. I'm so glad I stuck with it, as this has become my favorite show. I couldn't recommend it enough.
