This was my first time reading a crime novel and it was such a delight. I never actually liked this genre but this book was a good introduction for me. I just really liked how it doesn't necessarily started with a gruesome discovery right away. It all started with a stolen tractor. But as the story progresses, more and more things were being unfolded. I absolutely loved how Peter wrote his death discoveries too. You can almost feel and see what the corpses look like. He also wrote physical injuries convincingly that you can almost feel it's being done to you as well. The novel was almost 400 pages but you are being kept on asking questions and wanting for more for literally more than half of the novel. At first it bored me, but the moment the victim's body were found, and how it's condition was described, I was hooked again. Although I thought the ending was a bit rushed. Like, we didn't even see what happened to the crime mastermind after all the evidences were compiled. The author only stated he was put in prison. We didn't see the main killer's death as well, it was only said that he dies trying to kill one of the main characters. It's a shame considering how elaborate and descriptive the author was in the rest of the book but in the ending, he only tell not show. But nonetheless, it was a great read. I will definitely read other books from Peter Robinson if I ever come across one. There's something about his style that makes you want to read more.
