I’m surprised at the bad reviews. I thought the acting was excellent and the direction and camerawork was stellar. Its a current update to a been-told story, ..I’ll give them that. …And, the ending did drop the momentum a bit. But, I thought the story’s angle was fresh, and it kept me interested.

..disappointing. Such an epic character and story to work with,.. that just doesnt happen. I usually like both Joaquin and Ridley, but a less than stellar screenplay stands out in this somewhat boring, obviously expensive feature. I would have enjoyed a French flavor in the acting dialogue. As it is, all nations’ characters sound the same, and blend confusingly in the film. Most speak with an English accent, and Joaquin/Napolean just mutters, in a bland, uninspiring, dialect-empty delivery. Again though, i think most of my disappointment is rooted in what could have been.
