I've read the Foundation ... multiple times. I am a huge fan. I have to agree with those who criticize this series based on its deviation from the original story lines. It is not Asimov's Foundation. There are some of the original characters and plenty made up that never existed in the Foundation Series. So, as a fan of the books, I hope that someone else will do a better job sometime (kind of like the new Dune movie is redeeming that story). Having said that, as I've realized that this is not Asimov's story ... I've been able to enjoy it on its own. To be clear, if you can't do that (not saying you should), you won't like this.
