THIS GAME IS AWFUL!!! It is, by far, the worst game in the series. It’s essentially a direct port of the second game. They slap a $60 price tag on it because they made a new story, 1 new weapon variant, and maybe 4 new maps. The only thing new about the story is the story itself. The stages/levels play and are structured the exact same as the first two games. There’s a lot to say about this game, but nothing good/positive comes to mind. In terms of improving upon the second game, this one seems to have went backwards, making gameplay worse. To start, trying to join a match in the lobby takes forever. Once you finally get into a match, you’ll, almost always, get a communication error. I’ve had this error come up so many times. The fact that I have to pay money for an online service this poor is quite pathetic. Once you finally get into a match, don’t be surprised if you’re going against maxed out accounts/players. When I just started the game, I went up against players that had the highest ranked weapons. I looked into how to get one, and you need to be at least rank 30. I had just started at rank 1, and I was going against maxed out players. This is in no way fair to new players. Devs REFUSE to nerf overpowered weapons and it makes the game unplayable. As I mentioned previously, new players get matched up against seasoned veterans because that’s what Nintendo considers fair. This makes it impossible to win any matches. Just tonight, I’ve been playing for 3+ hours, and I haven’t won a single match. Usually, you go on streaks of losing 20+ matches in a row. If you get lucky, you win 1, but then the cycle starts all over again. Stage design isn’t any better. 30 seconds into any match and one team will have already trapped the other, making it impossible to do anything except get spawn killed. You have to play like that for the remaining 2 minutes and 30 seconds. You can’t just leave the match after getting trapped either, or else Nintendo bans your account for “intentionally disconnecting”. The Salmon Run game mode isn’t any better. The only change from the previous game is the ability to throw eggs, a few new bosses, and a couple of themed rounds. Regardless of your level, you’ll somehow get teamed with teammates that do not contribute, some people even just disconnecting. Whether it’s on purpose or not is beyond me, but I shouldn’t rank-down because I can’t complete the objective with one less teammate or someone that doesn’t contribute. The devs should ban the accounts that purposefully disconnect/don’t contribute from accessing the servers, but they don’t. When I’m about to level-up, I get teamed with such individuals, and I get punished for it. No one wants to play a game that constantly makes you sad about losing. It had potential to be a fun game to relax to, but the unfair matchmaking and overpowered weapons have ruined the experience for me. I am not happy with this game, and it will be the last Splatoon game I ever purchase (considering the devs think a fourth game would sell). This $60 game is overpriced for its quality. Do yourself a huge favor and save your money on a better game.
