Due to Covid-19 and Netflix, I finally got to watch this movie in its entirety today. It's an amazing piece of art and cinema. The location is very beautiful...looks like Italy but the languages spoken are English and French. I had a chance to appreciate the architecture and what was truly going on besides the blatant sexuality and relationship issues. Vanessa is going through emotional turmoil and her methods for dealing with her anger at being barren is very painful. Roland Bertrand, the writer, he is a different character that what is normally portrayed in cinema in a situation like he finds himself. He is angry too over his wife's barrenness but he must be strong, friendly AND complete his manuscript for "By The Sea" while also dealing with the disappointment that he will never be a father. It's an incredibly human story that does not end in tragedy. For this one fact, I am eternally grateful. This is a great story. A beautiful film whose tone is just perfect for sheltering in place. Well done.
