This is a true gamer’s game. One of the most challenging things I’ve played since the original NES Ninja Turtles game. I was beginning to think game manufacturers had gone soft.
There’s no easy mode and the only “cheating” you get is if you fight dishonorably. But even that will only take you so far.
Sekiro blends a truly unique combat system with stunning graphics, a story that isn’t trite or boring and a whole new approach to “Souls-esq” action adventure games.
Some people say the combat system is too simple, that it doesn’t allow a player to express their own styles. To an extent that is true, but it’s also kind of the point. There aren’t a lot of moves to master, or combinations or crazy techniques. Most of the time what gets you to the win is how sharp your reflexes are and - to a smaller extent - how sneaky and cunning you are. You will need to develop both of these traits as a player to beat the game and there really aren’t many short cuts. This game will level YOU up.
The game demands a lot of you. Countless deaths on the first playthrough, studying the enemies and how they move. And then you marvel at how easy it seems once you’ve studied your foe enough. The whole thing is just so f*king true to the genre. It’s brilliant. And the voice acting is good too.
