After all the hype, I’ve just finished binge watching Killing Eve. No spoilers given here. From the mind of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, this drama will have you hooked almost immediately. For a start, and from the start, the concept and writing was superbly put together, and although it is a complex and compelling storyline it was very well and seamlessly put together. Brilliant direction, beautifully shot and very high production values. The story twisted and turned but always with consistency and the same forward momentum. There a several cameo parts where the actors have taken on characters that they are certainly not normally known for and are extremely well cast portrayed. Some great acting from each of these. As for the main characters, Kim Bodnia (no, I’d never heard of him either) was outstanding. But who is he really? Which side is he on? Sandra Ho plays Eve and was a consistently calm and confident character who showed a tremendous amount of self control with a great amount of skill in her wonderful portrayal. Brilliantly done Sandra. Fiona Shaw is an amazing actor and the portrayal of her character, Carolyn was faultless and flawless throughout. I didn’t know whether to love, despise or admire her character. Certainly wouldn’t want to cross her thank you very much. Honestly, this lady has raw talent. And now to the main protagonist played by Jodie Comer. Well, where to start? She deserves an Oscar for her amazing skill set. To my untrained ear, she seemed to have mastered several accents and I didn’t really know what her true nationality was. Damn, she is good. She is beautiful, sexy, agile, strong and extremely capable. Congratulations Jodie, absolutely brilliant. Killing Eve? It is far more than that and will have you gripped right up to the final credits. Enjoy, I know I did.

Oh dear Rufus Sewell, you are far better than this absolute drivel. Overall the acting is awful, the camera work is atrocious, the directing is dreadful and it has zero production values. On the plus side, the beach looks great. The story is about people with underlying health issues who are encouraged in way or another to visit this off the beaten track luxury holiday location. The perfect hotel with incredible amenities for the perfect getaway, or is it? It becomes fairly obvious early on that all is not as it seems when a group of holidaymakers are given a day trip to a very private beach, and that is where the movie takes a downhill tumble into the abyss. I think they threw the best bits onto the cutting room floor. Why is the beach behind locked gates of a preservation area with a sign saying “keep out”. The group are overloaded with copious hampers, packed to the gunnels with food and told to makes their way down a long, tree covered path until they reach a canyon that they must go through. The minibus driver refuses to help them and makes a rapid retreat. The canyon is claustrophobic and damp but it open out onto a fabulous beach. Eventually Mr Sewell pulls a knife from his pocket and . . . Why would he carry a knife to a beach? Someone notices a shiny thing on the surrounding cliff top and realise it’s a telescope. Stuff happens and they try to leave but they can’t. Ooh more stuff happens and then at the end it just fizzles out shortly after a load of people just stand there, literally just stand there with open mouths. There is justification for what is going on but that is about it

Totally absurd story line and far too many Arnie quotes, but if you like very tongue in cheek fairly violent drama then this is for you. “That’s it and that’s all”
