“The View” under the aegis of Barbara Walters has been, a mostly, classy show with a few exceptions. Alyssa has been an excellent addition and while I don’t agree with her working for the FASCIST, she is repentant, humbled, and has learned and softened, to her credit.
For all her intelligence and opportunities to excel, however, Sonny Hostin has the least appealing character, in my opinion. Through her own labors, talents, and opportunities, Sonny has been able to elevate herself and create a singular life for herself and her family. Yet her essential character remains small, petty, and largely ungracious. Her need for attention is increasing by the day. Her appearance fluctuates from Hollywood starlet to streetwalker replete with 4” stilettos that would delight the heart of any female of the night. The poor pitiful pearl act when she is contradicted is ridiculous. And her joy is explosive when a person of color is presented, while appreciably subdued when a Caucasian appears. Like clockwork. Every time with few exceptions.
But the behavior that is “MOST” galling is whenever the “View your Deal” segments are shown. Her greediness, with a roughly $4 million net worth, knows no bounds. She will immediately hoard whatever item she sets her sights on, shoving them in her dress or top or secreting them on another table to take off set in her possession. Last Friday, June 21, I think, she immediately removed a $75 candle in a hobnailed gorgeous vessel right off its table. Sarah and the host were either silent or enabled that bad, greedy behavior out of pure embarrassment. Recently emboldened, Sonny has no problem helping herself to any variety and quantity of goods at each presentation and tries to pass it off with some cutesie behavior. This is not cute, appropriate, self-limiting behavior, but greedy, grasping, uncouth, and out of bounds. Joy even stated they, as hosts, are not supposed to take the goods. Greta, the vendor host, also enables Sonny’s atrocious behavior by telling her she saved items for her in the back. The guy from Oprah is more discreet, tries to handle Sonny’s graspiness as best he can without being flummoxed and embarrassed by her greediness. Sarah tries to keep it classy.
ABC needs to step in and tell Sonny Hostin her behavior is unbecoming, low class, and out of the ethical bounds for the network. And to donate all the items she has hauled off to charity and write a check out of contrition.
Please forward to the producers of “The View” and a response is requested.
