The book tugged at my heart. I knew Barbara since elementary school. We were friends. She silently went through more than any child (or adult, for that matter) ever should. I didn’t know that until years later. I always thought her family must have been very poor because of the way she dressed and brought very meager lunches to school. I wasn’t aware of the terrible abuse she and her siblings were subjected to at the hands of her father. I believe her mother was afraid to intervene . Barbara left home and made a remarkable life for herself. She became a talented author, speaker and mother. I recently got some very sad news. Barbara passed away at the age of 77. She forgave her abusive father. Something I don’t believe I could have ever done. Read her book. You will laugh, cry and get angry.
