I found this film relentlessly dark, shallow and meaningless of plot, annoying and unsatisfying. The scenery and acting are good. The plot is awful. There was no discernible comedy in this ‘dark comedy’. Some have speculated on hidden homosexual feelings but that wasn’t particularly apparent to me, wouldn’t explain it much anyway, and I don’t enjoy stories about being horrible to someone else in a small town for no good reason and pushing g them over some edge. Nowhere near as clever, interesting or funny as In Bruges

This is a great book, thrilling read. Just one little thing that nags me - the author makes a passing reference to kookaburra sounds as part of setting a sense of the sort of bush they were moving through, yet kookaburras are not native to WA and were not introduced to Western Australia till 1896. The whole thing took place in the 1870s. No WA author would have made that mistake. It’s a shame as Peter went to some trouble to visit these places where events leading up to and including the rescue occurred. He could change it to a 28 parrot call, maybe?
