As an avid King fan I was both excited and reluctant to check this show out. As anyone who has seen Kings works translated to screen can attest there are despairingly few really decent adaptations of his work and the idea of a universe which could incorporate a solid 2 decades+ worth of his vision into a broader narrative is indeed enticing. Unfortunately the execution does not rise the lofty goals set before it.
To start with, to say this show is slow and overly drawn out is like saying smashing your toes with a hammer may cause slight discomfort. With all the silence and very dramatic shots of people looking serious and saying nothing you could cut down each episode to 20 minutes and have a faster paced more cohesive and compelling story. Unfortunately you're stuck with 40 min of bloat (at the very least) per episode. And while that's not great it's not the shows biggest failing.
That would look in uninteresting, sometimes even unlikable characters. Especially the protagonist and antagonist. Neither is compelling in even the remotest sense. And with King characters that just doesn't fly. 90% of every King book is character development and motivation. And that it's sorely lacking here.
I'd say watch at your own risk. Might be good to have a pillow handy though.
