It’s not fair that Ryle is the bad guy so fast and for so long. The first book allows time for the reader to fall in love with Ryle in the same way that Lilly does. Which gives way to the complicated decision of leaving and the understanding that in Lilly’s eyes Atlas exists in the background. Her love for Ryle is so strong, and that was not captured. It felt empty in a way the book never felt.
