Watching the movie Downton Abbey is a needed throwback if you are a fan of the 6 season series that ended over two years ago. It’s always a challenge to create a movie based on a series that had so many interesting twists and turns as Downton Abbey had during its run. Probably for most fans the movie was nostalgic, as it certainly brings back those fun memories of enjoying the characters and their dilemmas throughout the years.
The movie did not disappoint me by any means, but the movie really did not have a plot except for the visit of the King and Queen of England. With that said, that was enough plot for me. I enjoyed seeing the growth of Tom’s character with his role of helping manage the Downton Abbey dynasty and aristocratic lifestyle of Downton. One of the outstanding memories I came away with, is the understanding of privilege and how it exists throughout history and continues today of course. Money and a class society are always the substances behind privilege in any nation. However I like the way Fellowes, the creator of Downton, brings the family members through privilege and how they handle their lives by being fair and caring to the help.
As evidence is there is a time in the movie where Barrow, experiences the benefits of privilege because he works for the Granthams. That is a very good piece of the movie I found, and I also liked seeing the growth and change in Barrow’s character as well.
Of course, Maggie Smith, delivers as always, her awesome dry one liners, as Violet,Lady Grantham, are indeed awesome and the audience of the theater would burst out in laughter.
So all in all, I give the movie and big thumbs up 👍🏻 and I see more Downton movies in the future with the character development leading to future stories of the Granthams and Downton!
